When you think of bedrooms, you think of one thing – sleep. It is therefore important that when furnishing and decorating a bedroom you generate a sense of calm and peace where your thoughts of the outside world disappear and you can fall asleep easily and quickly. Comfort and colour are the two most important things to consider when trying to achieve such a goal which is why your choice of bed, mattress, wallpaper or paint are ones you should think carefully about. On another note, we must remember that bedrooms do normally require some other furniture for practical reasons. Wardrobes, free-standing or built in, are a common sight in most bedrooms for the storage of clothes, shoes and anything else that needs a place to live. Side tables for lamps and alarm clocks, wall mounted televisions, shelving and the occasional dressing table are other potential elements to a bedroom. Multi-use BedroomsThese days it seems that we collect more possessions that we know what to do with and so space can sometimes become a premium. This has led to bedrooms becoming places not just for sleeping. Computer desks can be found in the bedroom for many reasons; a lack of a study, professional sharers seeking their own workspace, teenagers wanting privacy while surfing the internet or even work-at-home mums who need the peace and quiet to concentrate. The space conundrum in many homes may even mean that fitness and gym equipment makes it into the bedroom out of necessity while children’s rooms may double as a play room requiring plenty of storage for toys and games. Occasional BedroomsWhen a bedroom is used for more than one purpose it may be because the room is only used as a guest bedroom and has occupants for only a few weekends throughout the year. The problem here is that you want the room to be welcoming when it needs to be so all the potential clutter should be hidden away. Fold-away computer desks that disguise themselves as cupboards, wooden chests to store any fitness equipment or toys and fabric throws can all be used to maintain the bedroom look and feel when guests are staying. |
